The Chicken Burger

“Is a burger a sandwich?” is one of those rhetorical questions, much like “What is the sound of one hand clapping?” Regardless, one thing remains obvious: People love combinations of chicken and bread, no matter what you call it.
At The Chickenburger, a diner just outside
of Halifax, Nova Scotia, you can visit one of the oldest drive-ins in Canada. Opened in 1940 by the Innes family, it boasts a rockabilly-stocked jukebox and 1950s-feel milkshake menu.
But while the nostalgic decor at The Chick is no doubt a lure, the star attraction is the eponymous chicken burger, composed of tender chopped meat stacked in a plain white bun.
The result is a gastronomic throwback to an era when chicken was rarely tricked out Cajun-style. In other words, these delicious hand treats don’t taste like deep-fried batter or sauce; they taste like chicken.
