Resources

For books and movies, check out Four Women of Egypt by Egypt-raised filmmaker Tahan Rached (now based in Montreal) and Palace Walk , the first volume of a trilogy by Nobel Prize winner Naguib Mahfouz. We also recommend the popular album La Diva de la chanson orientale by Oum Kalsoum. Although the country’s legendary singer died 30 years ago, the world music section of your local music store is sure to have CDs by the Star of the Orient.
