A Shore Thing

The seaside getaway reaches mythic proportions in the Magdalen Islands.

On the seventh day, God scattered his last bit of dust off the shores of New Brunswick to create the Magdalen Islands. Or so say the locals. Self-confessed storytellers, Magdalenians tend to spin tall tales about this secluded archipelago. Who can blame them? The islands – several of which are connected by a sandy isthmus – are an Eden for those looking to relax or, say, fish for conch, not to mention take in the sea-to-table cuisine (the lobster alone is worth the trip). So don’t be surprised if you spot a celebrity or two also looking to unwind. We passed actor Claude Legault (of Les 3 p’tits cochons fame) breezing through the airport.

They’re gorgeous, they’re golden and they’re everywhere you look. The powdery beaches of the Magdalen Islands stretch for kilometres and are a favourite of windsurfers.
