South Andros, Bahamas
Where to Stay
Owned by the same developer, Emerald Palms and Tiamo are equally somnolent. Emerald Palms leans to country casual, while Tiamo’s 11 bungalows are more upscale. Tiamo’s solar power and sustainable materials are nice, but the developer’s social conscience – he helped locals start a bonefishing outfit – is even better.

Andros is the quietest island in the Bahamas, but Eleuthera is a close second and has several luxury hotels, including the upcoming Cotton Bay Estates (partnering with Starwood Hotels & Resorts). Meanwhile, try the Cove Eleuthera (with a great restaurant) or Powell Pointe Resort (with the area’s top marina).
