Second Prize – Creative Non-Fiction

Phyllis Nakonechny taught high school English and creative writing for 30 years before devoting herself to her own work. Nakonechny has recently begun work on a collection of prints, books and art projects that explores the connection between language and seeing. She lives in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

The art for this story showcases the work of emerging photographer Sara A. Tremblay, who graduates this spring from the fine arts program at Concordia University in Montreal. Tremblay looks at the relationship between people and their surroundings through portraits, objects and landscapes.
