These days, a car is more than a chunk of heavy machinery to take you from point A to point B. It’s a lifestyle purchase, one that says as much about who you are as the clothes you wear and the house you live in. At the same time, some luxury carmakers have democratized the manufacturing process. Progressive companies are embracing transparency in their factories – employees can see executives working and vice versa – while creating a more welcoming environment for the general public. Pritzker-prize winner Zaha Hadid called her BMW Leipzig plant design an opportunity to “transform movement into architecture” – taking us way beyond point B.
