THE SIRENS

The sexy 1988 hit "Bye Bye Mon Cowboy" by Mitsou, French Canada’s then 17-year-old queen of sugar-coated pop, could have become a kitschy where-are-they-now cultural footnote. Surprise – Mitsou Gélinas is now a Quebec TV and radio host, manager of the popular Quebec women’s mag Clin d’œil and co-founder of the Montreal studio Dazmo Musique. Her first album, El Mundo – and the longevity of her career – has become a blueprint for a whole generation of determined chart divas from La Belle Province.

Photographed by Crila at Zipper Music in Montreal on June 28, 2004. Clockwise, from left: Anny Carrier, Ima, Mitsou, Audrey de Montigny, Gabrielle Destroismaisons, Annie Major-Matte, Andrée Watters, Jacynthe.

Styled by Malia Morsly, assisted by Annik Lefebvre. Makeup by Brigitte Gareau, Mindy Ducheine, Melissa Martel. Hair by Isabelle Lafleur, Sabrina Jeffers, Lucie Maucieri. Clothes, jewelry and accessories by Axara, Holt Renfrew, Maskarad, and Le Château.
