CHILDREN'S BEDROOM

Sketch 'n' Play by Sharon Nievares
nievares@ualberta.ca

Children are some of the most creative and innovative beings. It is very important to create ways to stimulate and enhance their imaginative abilities in order for them to develop to their fullest potential. The Sketch ’n’ Play presents the opportunity to expand the creative skills of children by creating their own play adventures whether it be on a specially designed race car course or in defending the walls of a castle. A child begins their play adventure by drawing anything that he or she would like to play with or an environment that he or she would like to explore on the drawing surface of the Sketch ’n’ Play. Then, the Sketch ’n’ Play has the ability to read and interpret the two-dimensional drawing and create three-dimensional models. The 3-D model is then projected and ready to be played with. The child would be able to manipulate different elements such as the figures or automobiles of the 3-D model by voice activation. The child can get his or her friends in the action by recording their voices and associating an object with his or her friend’s voice. Children with theatrical sensibilities can become a character and provide dialogue with other characters in the scene, creating a virtual dramatic play. The Sketch ’n’ Play stretches the imagination and takes playing make-believe and dress-up to a whole new level.

Anti-Gravity Pod by Aura Enns
alenns@ualberta.ca

As space exploration technologies develop in the future, those of the past will integrate into our everyday lives. It will be no stretch of the imagination for a child to have a remote control toy vehicle that will allow them to explore the moon or other planets at their leisure via satellite, or for that matter, to enjoy the elating feeling of floating weightlessly in their own antigravity pod. This will be as common as today's trampoline or jungle gym.

LIVING ROOM

SID (Sound Isolation Device) by Ajin Lee
ajinl@ualberta.ca

This product allows the user to control the sound environment for the individual user and the surrounding neighborhoods from interfering with each other. The S.I.D. will sense the offending sound energy and emit a counter signal to neutralize it. This S.I.D. consists of a station and four satellites that can be situated where required. This computer programmable station will sense the eye movement of the user and can be remotely controlled by assigned eye movement.
