Getting Down to Business
In the late 1970s, we introduced our readers to a new phenomenon: the “managerial woman” (April 1979). But we also had a broader vision of the future workplace and went accordingly tech-crazy. We brought readers the microchip – “just like potato chips… [but] less nutritious” (March 1979) and the slightly less revolutionary wristwatch lie detector (September 1979). In June 1977, we featured the portable phone, calling it “the ultimate in status symbols.” By December 1982, we were bonkers for the portable microcomputer, “a dandy traveling companion” that fit right under our airplane seats.
