These five young landscape architects – Mathieu Casavant, France Cormier, Josée Labelle, Michel Langevin and Mélanie Mignault – came home to Quebec in 2001 after a stint working in Massachusetts. Their playful way of evoking the garden will be on view this summer when they install giant Adirondack armchairs at Montreal’s Mont-Royal metro station.

Forest fringe: Walls of pine cones suspended in jars of crayon-coloured water evoked a magical make-believe forest in this installation, titled In vitro.

“Our goal is for people to identify with the landscape, which we use as a means of expression. We try to have fun capturing the essence of every space. The ‘new garden’ is about managing to tell the story of a place. That’s how we approach each project.”
