Cormier oversees the grounds at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. His eponymous firm is known for its vibrant, colourful designs, as seen in the high-profile indoor “winter garden” and esplanade at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal and the Blue Stick Garden, recently on display at England’s Hestercombe Gardens.

True blue: Blue Stick Garden symbolized a mixed perennial border
popular in traditional English gardens.

“When you enter a garden, you seem to disconnect [from society] a little bit and step out of reality. A garden is a personal space. It can be an extension of yourself.”

Claude Cormier
