Though trained as architects, Toronto-based Chris Pommer, Mary Tremain and Lisa Rapoport have worked on landscape, furniture and interior design, including gardening doyenne Marjorie Harris’ celebrated plot. Their work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States and Italy. Current projects include a 12,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor interpretive centre in Cambridge, Ont.

Lost and found: Natural materials, such as fissured beach stones and hay walls, were formed into oversize outdoor furniture for the temporary exhibit, Le Jardin du repos.

“Gardens are inherently about sculpting space. A garden is a synthetic landscape. It’s an artificial piece of paradise. Gardens are little oases that give you a place to decompress in a way that an interior space doesn’t.”
